autumn 2022 -premiere 30 November
slowly,slowly…until the sun comes up
A synesthetic experience, a reverie in a way, which unfolds before the spectators, gradually disturbing our perceptions of concrete and imaginary space, a nocturnal journey towards the unknown. The show gathers the individual glances in a collective dream woven together during the time of the representation, surprising and perhaps repairing, freed from the consequences which dominate the diurnal and « waked » world.
After residencies at Atelier de Paris (CDCN, Paris), La Place de la Danse, (CDCN, Toulouse), Mille Plateaux (CCN, La Rochelle), Cndc d’Angers, Le Pacifique (CDCN, Grenoble), and la Ménagerie de verre (Paris), the premiere will be we will premiere the piece on November 30 at Atelier de Paris. associated artist @Pacifique – CDCN Grenoble
In the dangerously uncertain world in which major paradigms on all levels change rapidly and in which the place of theatre, dance and art practice in general become increasingly marginal and precarious, for the next couple of years Le Pacifique will be a refuge place in which we will reflect, share and act on the notions of interdependence, sentience, dreams, collective, ephemerality and slowness… and of what is irreversible, irreplaceable, unbuyable, often invisible but fundamental

In a suspended, fragile and continuously postponed ‘now’ as we know it now, in which we remember ‘before’ and have no idea what will happen ‘after’, Fäden (Threads) emerges as a choreographic, poetic and visual meditation on time and how its course shapes our lives.TRAILER

In Munich working further on Fäden, with a great group of colleagues from Munchener Kammerspiele and Dance On Ensemble. Our premiere that was planned on 16th of April is unfortunately not happening due to new regulations in Germany. In spite of all odds, enjoying every step of the process, preparing the piece for the moment, in hopefully not too long future, in which we’ll be allowed to invite you to experience it. in the mean time here is the teaser made by

The premiere is planned at Münchener Kammerspiele in April 2021. We don’t know will it be possible but enjoying every step of the way. This great teaser was done by

Thanks to

This situation is very difficult, and we are unfortunately not the only internationally working company that goes through this kind of experiences at the moment. The performing dates in Leipzig should have been our premiere, so, symbolically speaking the gravity of this situation is even deeper. We also, and for the same reasons, have postponed the dates in Tanzfabrik Berlin which were initially planned on the 16 and 17 October. Lets hope that for both Leipzig and Berlin we’ll find new dates in 2021.
Our next performing dates at Kaaitheater in Brussels on 24 and 25 of November, if they happen, will be the official premiere of Forces of Nature, followed by a show at NEXT Festival in BUDA, Kortrijk on the 27 of November.
The first next dates after this are planned only in March 2021 at Le Maillon in Strasbourg which should be the French premiere of the show.
What seems the most important for us now, for practical, ethical, emotional and symbolic reasons, is to continue the practice and to finish the piece. We were lucky to be helped by colleagues in Pairs who have shown a great deal of solidarity; we have been generously hosted in residency by Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers and by Les Laboratoires d’Aubervillers, and we keep on working, sharing thoughts, forms and ideas, as a way to resist this madness we live in.

HORS-CHAMP
We feel happy and priviliged to have the oportunity to show Hors-Champ at the Black Box Theatre in Oslo on the 5 and 6 September 2020. Hors-Champ was created in 2017, long before the outburst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and originally conceived to be performed in a colony of little 2-person tents. Among other things, the piece reflects upon the relation between intimacy and open space, private and public. In our pandemic lives this relation resonates even stronger, as being intimate with others in a public space was and still is, impossible, difficult and sometimes even illegal. For its first Norwegian showings, and with a help of the fantastic team of Black Box Theatre who helped us with staging while we were kept in Paris, Hors-Champ had a slightly new form, rooting itself deeper in the experiences of and reflections about the world we live in. On the occasion of showings in Oslo, I.M. gave un interview INTERVIEW for the Black Box Theatre Publication which you can read here
summer 2020

Obvisouly the residency in the physical space in Belgium wasn’t possible .
But the question we asked at the beggining curiously echoed in this new situation of pandemics. So we decided to start working, regardless of the total change of scheme, and to adapt our working methods to the resources and situation we had.
This process made us go into some fundamental reflections on the idea of interdependence, intimacy, waiting, longing, rooting, sharing and taking care…the idea of habitat and new social choreographies that have been put into working since we are locked… the idea of body and its mediated, social, celestial and « coronal » extensions… the idea of collective and « assemblies ».
We will continue working on this material, possibly and hopefully in May and June in a studio in Paris, or if not from our homes.
We keep you posted, and let’s hope that, if all goes well, we can invite you for the premiere in Leipzig on the 2nd of October 2020.

I.M. will participate in this Conference organized by the University of Salzburg and in collaboration with Szene Salzburg. In her talk she will reflect upon some of her experiences as artist working in the European context and develop some points of view on (im)possible utopias that could be developed through collective artistic practices in current European societies.

ENTRE-DEUX, sortie de residence Montevideo, Marseille
22 May 2019
This new work created by Ivana Müller and the French writer Gaëlle Obiégly is based on the practice of embroidery, this ancient form of female « writing » that uses the needle as a pen.
By working on a large piece of cloth both artists embroider together and in real time, in front of the audience. Their meticulous gestures reveal a succession of forms that slowly become letters, and then turn into words that appear as triggers of a conversation where they share the points of view and tell stories about the world they observe et re-invent. On this embroidered screen that hides and exposes at the same time the slow process of appearances and disappearances of sense produces a certain suspense, proposing a framework to create a common body that does not dance with the arms and legs but through the movements of the threads, a body in permanent transformation nourished by hands and the imagination of two artists.
The premiere is planned for the autumn 2019. More information about dates soon here.

SODA LECTURES – UFERSTUDIOS BERLIN
16 January 2019 – 18h
Body, Text, Collective – Choreographing the Imaginary
In her lecture Ivana Müller will take the idea of “invisible” as a point of departure, and speak about the practices of choreographic and theatrical writing as processes through which we reveal and deal with different kinds of invisible(s). How are theatrical and social representations related to the invisible processes build through collective and individual imagination? How is an artist choosing material tools in order to shape the immaterial? Where do imaginary and invisible meet. What do we really share in theatre? How to work on structures that are not telling us what to think but open new points of view.

CONVERSATIONS OUT OF PLACEWith this new piece, Ivana Müller, in collaboration with Hélène Iratchet, Julien Lacroix, Anne Lenglet and Vincent Weber, proposes a reflection on the world we live in, by taking our relation to nature as point of departure.
Inspired by the 18th century literary genre « conte philosophique », Conversations Out of Place is an allegory that takes place in an unusual and slightly absurd universe in which a group of human beings wander the same path together for days, weeks, months, years, constantly keeping their common sense of direction but slowly losing the idea of their final destination.
Interpreted by four humans and a plant, empowered by the spectators’ gaze,Conversations Out of Place function as a bubbling ecosystem that produces interactions, symbiosis, waste, pollution, creating a biodiversity in a permanent state of transformation.
After a first series of rehearsals at the Ménagerie de verre in Paris in June, we continue working at Le Phare, CCN du Havre Normandie and Schauspiel Leipzig.

CARTE BLANCHE à LA MENAGERIE DE VERRE – PARIS
COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/BOOK:NOTES
ENG
In October 2016 IM started working on a project commissioned by Freiburg City Theatre (DE) as a part of the Heritage Depot Project. Inspired by the 19th century ‘Marginalia’ gesture of ‘preparing’ a book before offering it to a friend or lover by writing personal notes in the margin, Ivana Müller invited Bojana Kunst, Paz Rojo, David Weber-Krebs, Paula Caspao, Ant Hampton and Jonas Rutgeerts into a collaborative practice based on gestures of reading and writing.
All the participants in the project chose a book together: Echolalias, On the Forgetting of Language by Daniel Haller-Roazen. They read the same copy of the book one after the other, during 5 month period, and while reading they wrote their notes in the margin. The body of the « noted book » traveled between different European cities where the participants live, becoming a body of exchange, a body of influence, a territory of reflection, a common place.
Once annotated the book continues its life as a book, outside of official
institutions, traveling from reader to reader, each reader choosing the following one, giving her/him the book by hand. The book’s journey will last for the next 10 years, crossing many
hands and taking unpredictable paths driven by chance, trust and
gestures of friendship. A log of all readers will be kept as part of an archive, slowly tracing the cartographies of the emerging reading community.
To be followed on www.ivanamuller.com/works/notes
The Heritage Depot exhibition will take place from March 25 till 29 April in the Museum für Neue Kunst in Freiburg, in which an installation based on some of the issues and questions related to the practices of Notes will be shown. This possible representation of the annotated book contains a display of all of the 291 facsimiled pages of the annotated book on the wall, page by
page and in the same order as they appear in the book, creating a
certain sort of a ‘dissected map’, through which the visitor can
wonder, either alone or in a group with the other visitors,
listening to the 11 hour long audio document of 7 annotators reading
the book chapter by chapter, one after the other.
FR

T.R.I.P.
ENG
During the residency at the Ménagerie de verre in Paris, throughout 2017, Ivana Müller will run a research lab together with a group of Paris- based colleagues: Bryan Campbell, Céline Cartillier, Duncan Evennou, Madeleine Fournier, Hélène Iratchet, Anne Lenglet, Olivier Normand, Pauline Simon, Bahar Temiz et Vincent Weber.
The name of the lab is T.R.I.P and its main objective is the creation of a space of experimentation, reflections, encounters and exchanges in the field of choreographic practices and production . During 11 meetings (one day per month) each participant will show a work in progress / a performative proposal / experience which will be the starting point for a shared practice, a laboratory where the ways of working will be at the heart of the reflection. Each individual proposal will be processed and presented in a way that is most appropriate to the proposal itself. The form of the presentation and the sharing methodology will be reinvented at each session. These monthly meetings will open the possibility of developing different methods of feedback and support for creative practices. The long duration of the project has the potential to develop a common body of influence and to forge other types of relationships and associations among the participants.
A publication based on the experience of practices shared with the contributions of all participants will be published in late 2017 / early 2018.

CONVERSATIONS…
ENG
Inspired by the 18th century form of conte philosophique, “Conversations…” functions as a playful performative score in which
certain philosophical concepts such as Work, Illusion, Body, Togetherness, Nature, Luck etc. get into a dialogue with one
another. Embodied and interpreted by four humans and a certain number of plants (of different shapes, sizes, origins and
characteristics), those concepts get a body, a voice and therefore a possibility to interact.
The premiere of the piece will take place in autumn 2017.
More info about the project here soon.
