Ivana Müller est chorégraphe, artiste et auteure.
À travers son travail chorégraphique et théâtral ainsi que ses performances, installations et textes, elle crée des poétiques du langage, interroge le corps et ses représentations, repense la politique du spectacle et du spectaculaire, revisite la place de l’imagination et de l’imaginaire, questionne la notion de « participation », explore l’idée de valeur et continue de s’inspirer des relations entre interprète et spectateur. Son travail est souvent expérimental, radical et formellement innovant. L’idée du mouvement et du corps reste au centre de son intérêt artistique.
Bien qu’elle crée sous différentes formes, le théâtre reste le principal contexte dans lequel elle développe et présente son travail. Ses pièces – entre autres How Heavy Are My Thoughts (2003), Under My Skin (2005), While We Were Holding It Together (2006), Playing Ensemble Again And Again (2008), Working Titles (2010), 60 Minutes of Opportunism (2010), Partituur (2011), In Common (2012), We are Still Watching (2012-2015), Positions (2013), Edges (2016), Conversations déplacées (2017) – ont été produites et présentées dans certains des principaux festivals et lieux de théâtre en Europe, aux États-Unis et en Asie, au cours des douze dernières années. Occasionnellement son travail est également présenté dans le contexte de l’art plastique, notamment à la Biennale de Venise en 2015, le Garage Museum Of Contemporary Art (Moscou), Hayward Gallery/Southbank Center (Londres), Kunsthalle (Düsseldorf), National Museum of Singapore, Zachęta – National Gallery, Varsovie.
Dans le cadre de sa pratique artistique, Ivana Müller collabore avec des artistes et théoriciens tels que Bojana Kunst, David Weber Krebs, Andrea Bozic, Jonas Rutgeerts, Jefta van Dinther, Bill Aitchison, Paz Rojo, Sarah van Lamsweerde, Christine De Smedt, Gaëlle Obiégly et bien d’autres.
En 2007, Müller a reçu le prix Charlotte Koehler du Prins Bernhard Fund (NL) pour son œuvre, ainsi que le prix Impulse Festival & Goethe Institute pour sa pièce While We Were Holding It Together. La même année, la pièce a également été nominée pour le prix néerlandais VSCD de la meilleure performance de l’année.
Parallèlement à sa pratique artistique, Ivana Müller organise des rencontres artistiques et discursives et donne des conférences en tant que professeur invité notamment au Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam, à la School For New Dance Development, Amsterdam, à l’Institute For Applied Theatre Studies Giessen, à l’Université Paris 8, à la Performance Studies – University of Hamburg, à PARTS Brussels, etc.
Ivana Müller a étudié la littérature comparée et le français à l’université de Zagreb, la chorégraphie et la danse à la School for New Dance Development d’Amsterdam et les beaux-arts à la Hochschule der Künste de Berlin.
De 2004 à 2009, elle a été membre fondatrice de la plateforme de collaboration artistique LISA (Amsterdam). En 2017, Ivana Müller a été artiste associée à la Ménagerie de Verre à Paris. Depuis 2022, elle est artiste associée au Pacifique-CDCN à Grenoble.
Ivana Müller est née à Zagreb et a grandi en Croatie et à Amsterdam. Elle vit à Paris et travaille à l’international.

Ivana Müller is a choreographer, artist and author of texts.
Through her choreographic and theatre work (performances, installations, text works, video-lectures, audio pieces, guided tours and web-works) she re-thinks the politics of spectacle and spectacular, re-visits the place of imaginary and imagination, questions the notion of « participation », investigates the idea of value and its representation, and keeps on getting inspired by the relationship between performer and spectator.
Although she creates through various forms, theatre remains the principle context in which she develops and presents her work. Her pieces – among others How Heavy Are My Thoughts (2003), Under My Skin (2005), While We Were Holding It Together (2006), Playing Ensemble Again And Again (2008), Working Titles (2010), 60 Minutes of Opportunism (2010), Partituur (2011), In Common (2012), We are Still Watching (2012-2015), Positions (2013), Edges (2016), Conversations Out of Place (2017) – have been produced and presented in some of the major theatre festivals and venues in Europe, USA and Asia, over the last 12 years.
Her work has been occasionally shown in visual art contexts (Venice Biennale 2015, among others).
In her practice she has collaborated and collaborates with artists and theoreticians such as Bojana Kunst, David Weber Krebs, Andrea Bozic, Jonas Rutgeerts, Jefta van Dinther, Bill Aitchison, Paz Rojo, Sarah van Lamsweerde, Christine De Smedt, Gaëlle Obiégly and many others.
In 2007 Müller received the Charlotte Koehler Prize from the Prins Bernhard Fund (NL) for her oeuvre, as well as the Impulse Festival & Goethe Institute Prize for her piece While We Were Holding It Together. That same year, the piece was also nominated for the Dutch VSCD prize for best performance of the year.
Next to her artistic practice, Ivana Müller curates artistic and discursive encounters and lectured/lectures as a guest lecturer/professor (at, amongst others, Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam, School For New Dance Development, Amsterdam, Institute For Applied Theatre Studies Giessen, Université Paris 8, Performance Studies – University of Hamburg, PARTS Brussels etc.).
Müller studied Comparative literature and French at the University of Zagreb, Choreography & dance at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam and Fine Arts at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.
From 2004 till 2009 she was a founding member of artistic collaborative platform LISA (Amsterdam). In 2017, Ivana Müller was associate artist at the Ménagerie de Verre in Paris. Since 2022, she has been an associate artist at Le Pacifique-CDCN in Grenoble.
Ivana Müller was born in Zagreb and grew up in Croatia and in Amsterdam. She lives in Paris and works internationally.
