ON BELIEF

On Belief is a reflection on THE PHYSICAL PRESENCE in theatre and therefore on theatre itself. To stage this reflection Ivana Müller uses a video lecture, presenting Ivana Müller, not present in the theatre addressing the spectator who is there at the moment of the projection. She regrets the fact of not being there, of not knowing how the audience will respond, of missing the applause. Slowly she exposes the reciprocal relationship between performer and spectator, playing with the anticipation a meeting in theatre always has.
On Belief was commissioned for the opening of the Springdance Festival (2007, Utrecht, NL) and also presented at the opening of the theatre season (2007 – 2008) in the Leidse Schouwburg (NL), in the festival LISA live(s) in Kikker (2007) and in Tanzquartier Wien at On possible and other encounters (2009).
